Navigating Perimenopause and Menopause with Expert Care and Evidence-Based Solutions

Menopause is a natural biological process that marks the end of a woman’s reproductive years. It is characterized by a decline in hormone production of estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone. While menopause can bring about various symptoms such as vasomotor symptoms, mood swings, and changes in sleep patterns, evidence-based menopause hormone therapy has been shown to be safe and effective in managing these symptoms. Our Menopause Society Certified Practitioners provide a thorough assessment of current and past medical issues along with current symptoms to determine the most suitable treatment options, with shared decision-making, that are tailored to individual needs.

What to Expect During Your Appointment

1

Check In

Use the check-in link sent to you via text to fill out your patient paperwork and consents PRIOR to the day of your appointment. Paperwork MUST be filled out at least 1 day before the appointment for our office to be able to process the paperwork.

Upon arrival to the clinic, check in via the Healow app or by text to indicate you have arrived. Then help yourself to coffee, tea, or water and a light snack while you wait in our cozy waiting room.

2

Consultation

Appointments happen with your clothes on in the comfort of the consultation room, in comfy chairs with a beverage of your choice.  Revolutionary, right? New patient appointments last 60-90 minutes where we will review your history, discuss your current concerns, and then review your plan of care options. Return patient appointments last 30-60 minutes and consist of an update of information as necessary, review of plan of care and symptoms, and revision of plan of care as necessary.

3

Review Options

We’ll take the time to go over all your options, review the most up-to-date evidence and pros and cons and work together through shared decision-making to find the best fit for you. This includes considering your personal needs, preferences, and any physical, emotional, or financial factors that are important to you.

4

Vitals & Exam

During all visits, a brief physical exam, including vital signs and an assessment of your concerns, is conducted in the consultation room. If a breast exam, pelvic exam, Pap smear, or procedure is necessary, we provide trauma-informed care in a separate, private exam room. You’ll be offered warm or room-temperature cloth gowns, robes, sheets, and blankets for added comfort on a cushioned exam table.

We use Nella KIND reusable speculums exclusively, designed for your comfort. They are temperature-neutral (no more cold metal speculums!), small as a tampon (no more pinching or pain), and completely quiet (no clicking sounds from disposable plastic speculums). Footrests or stirrups are available when needed, but many exams can be performed without them. Your safety, comfort, and well-being are our top priorities, and we strive to make every examination a calm, comfortable, and pain-free experience.

What is the difference between perimenopause and menopause?

Perimenopause is the transitional phase leading up to menopause, marked by fluctuating hormone levels and symptoms such as irregular periods, hot flashes, and mood changes. Perimenopause can start up to 10 years before menopause.  Menopause is defined as the point when a woman has gone 12 consecutive months without a menstrual period.

What are common symptoms of perimenopause and menopause?

Symptoms can vary widely (there are over 100 symptoms!) but may include hot flashes, night sweats, mood swings, brain fog, sleep disturbances, vaginal dryness, decreased libido, and changes in weight or energy levels. Our approach focuses on identifying your specific symptoms and providing personalized treatment to manage them effectively.

Is hormone therapy safe for managing perimenopause and menopause symptoms?

Menopause hormone therapy is a safe and effective option for many women to manage their symptoms and prevent health conditions like osteopenia/osteoporosis and cardiovascular issues. We carefully assess your medical history, current health, and personal preferences to determine if menopause hormone therapy is right for you and tailor the treatment to your needs.

Are there non-hormonal options for managing menopause symptoms?

Yes, non-hormonal treatments, including lifestyle changes, dietary adjustments, supplements, and certain non-hormonal medications, can help manage menopause symptoms. We offer a range of evidence-based options to create a plan that works best for your individual situation.

Can menopause affect long-term health?

Yes, menopause-related hormonal changes can increase the risk of conditions such as osteoporosis, cardiovascular disease, metabolic changes like diabetes, and recurrent urinary tract infections (UTIs). Our care focuses not only on managing symptoms but also on implementing strategies to support your long-term health and well-being.
