What to Expect During Your Appointment

1

Check In

Use the check-in link sent to you via text to fill out your patient paperwork and consents PRIOR to the day of your appointment. Paperwork MUST be filled out at least 1 day before the appointment for our office to be able to process the paperwork.

Upon arrival to the clinic, check in via the Healow app or by text to indicate you have arrived. Then help yourself to coffee, tea, or water and a light snack while you wait in our cozy waiting room.

2

Consultation

Appointments happen with your clothes on in the comfort of the consultation room, in comfy chairs with a beverage of your choice.  Revolutionary, right? New patient appointments last 60-90 minutes where we will review your history, discuss your current concerns, and then review your plan of care options. Return patient appointments last 30-60 minutes and consist of an update of information as necessary, review of plan of care and symptoms, and revision of plan of care as necessary.

3

Review Options

We’ll take the time to go over all your options, review the most up-to-date evidence and pros and cons and work together through shared decision-making to find the best fit for you. This includes considering your personal needs, preferences, and any physical, emotional, or financial factors that are important to you.

4

Vitals & Exam

During all visits, a brief physical exam, including vital signs and an assessment of your concerns, is conducted in the consultation room. If a breast exam, pelvic exam, Pap smear, or procedure is necessary, we provide trauma-informed care in a separate, private exam room. You’ll be offered warm or room-temperature cloth gowns, robes, sheets, and blankets for added comfort on a cushioned exam table.

We use Nella KIND reusable speculums exclusively, designed for your comfort. They are temperature-neutral (no more cold metal speculums!), small as a tampon (no more pinching or pain), and completely quiet (no clicking sounds from disposable plastic speculums). Footrests or stirrups are available when needed, but many exams can be performed without them. Your safety, comfort, and well-being are our top priorities, and we strive to make every examination a calm, comfortable, and pain-free experience.

What causes changes in libido or sexual desire?

Changes in libido can result from a variety of factors, including hormonal shifts, stress, fatigue, medications, relationship dynamics, or underlying health conditions. We take a holistic approach to identify the root cause and provide tailored solutions to support your sexual health.

Why might I experience difficulty with arousal or achieving orgasm?

Difficulties with arousal or orgasm can stem from physical, emotional, or psychological factors, such as perimenopause/menopause, medical conditions, medication side effects, or stress and anxiety. We provide comprehensive evaluations to determine the cause and offer evidence-based treatments to improve your experience.

What can cause pain during intimacy, and how is it treated?

Pain during intimacy, also known as dyspareunia, can be caused by various factors, including vaginal dryness, perimenopause or menopause, pelvic floor dysfunction, or certain medical conditions. Our approach includes a thorough assessment and individualized treatment options, such as pelvic floor therapy, hormone therapies, and lubricants, to restore comfort and confidence.

How do hormones affect sexual function?

Hormonal fluctuations, such as those during perimenopause, menopause, or postpartum, can significantly impact libido, arousal, and vaginal health. We offer evidence-based hormone therapies and other treatments to address these changes and support optimal sexual function.

Can stress and mental health affect sexual function?

Yes, stress, anxiety, depression, and other mental health factors can greatly impact libido, arousal, and overall sexual satisfaction. We integrate mental health screenings into our care and can collaborate with mental health professionals or offer strategies to address these concerns.

What treatments are available for sexual dysfunction?

Treatment options for sexual dysfunction include hormone therapies, FDA approved sexual dysfunction medications, pelvic floor physical therapy, sex therapy or other types of counseling, and non-hormonal options like lubricants or sex tools. We focus on individualized care to find the right combination of treatments for your needs.

Is it normal to experience changes in sexual function as I age?

Yes, it is common to experience changes in sexual function due to aging, hormonal shifts, including postpartum and perimenopause/menopause, or life transitions. However, these changes do not have to diminish your quality of life. We are here to help you navigate these changes and achieve satisfying sexual health.
